Arthur Lynn Shepherd, of Dixon, was born on June 23, 1951, at St. Louis, a son of William Carl and Audrey Ellen (Slone) Shepherd and departed this life at 8:24 p.m., Monday evening, December 11, 2017, at his residence. Arthur had attained the age of 66 years, 5 months, and 18 days.
Arthur was united in marriage on July 21, 1973, at Dixon, to Jeannie Sue Prater and to this union, one daughter was born. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl on November 2, 2014; his mother-in-law, Vera Prater on June 12, 2011; one nephew, Josh Shepherd and one great-niece, Baby Doyle.
Arthur was baptized early in life and was a member of the Burnett Church near Dixon where he had also served on the board of directors. He had served in the National Guard and worked for Alltel Phone Company for many years and then was owner and operator of his construction business. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Those left to mourn the passing of Arthur include: his wife, Jeannie Shepherd; his daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Roland Ray; granddaughter, Emma Ray, all of Dixon; his mother, Audrey Shepherd, Dixon; two brothers and sister-in-law, his twin, Lewis Shepherd, Rolla and Kevin and Joyce Shepherd, Dixon; his sister and brother-in-law, Carlene and Elroy McMillian, Dixon; his father-in-law, William "Bill" Prater, Dixon; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Gayle Prater, Dixon; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lori and Ronnie Baker, Iberia; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held for Arthur at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 14, 2017, in the Burnett Church near Dixon, with Bro. Danny Bassett and Bro. David Hokanson officiating.
Interment was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dixon. Pallbearers for Arthur were Jeff McMillian, Zach Shepherd, Tyler Shepherd, Justin Prater, Larry Prater and Ronnie Baker. Honorary pallbearers were Maddex McGowan, Cannon McGowan, Rawsyon Shepherd, Luke Shepherd, Ryan Shepherd, Kholsyn Shepherd, Bo Shepherd, Casen Reiter, Weston Davis and Mason Davis.
Memorial contributions are suggested by the family to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital with envelopes available at the office of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dixon.
