Bernard Herman "Ben" Engelmeyer, of St. Anthony, was born on September 25, 1930, at Westphalia, a son of Henry M. and Catherine M. (Holtmeyer) Engelmeyer and departed this life at 7:43 p.m., Sunday evening, November 10, 2019 at his residence. Mr. Engelmeyer had attained the age of 89 years, 1 month and 16 days.
Mr. Engelmeyer was united in marriage on August 31, 1957, at St. Thomas, to Lucille C. Luebbering and to this union, seven children were born. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry in February 1988; his mother, Catherine in October 1967; two brothers, Herman Engelmeyer and Steve Engelmeyer and two sisters, Christine Luebbering and Gertrude Rustemeyer.
Mr. Engelmeyer was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded and entitled to wear the Korean Service Medal w/1 bronze Service Star; Good Conduct Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
Mr. Engelmeyer was a member of the St. Anthony Parish Catholic Church. He had been employed at Fort Leonard Wood in the transportation motor pool and later was promoted to supervisor over the mechanics and equipment department, retiring in 1974 as well as being a farmer for all his working life.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Engelmeyer include: his wife, Lucille Engelmeyer, St. Anthony; three sons and daughters-in-law, James Engelmeyer and Ruth Laubert, Meta; Ralph and Donna Engelmeyer and Sylvester "Butch" and Cathy Engelmeyer, all of St. Anthony; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary Engelmeyer and Arthur McManus, Wardsville; Donna and Ronnie Kirkweg and Emma Engelmeyer, all of Eldon and Patti Joiner, Wardsville; one brother, John Engelmeyer, St. Anthony; one sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Jim Watson, state of Tennessee; sixteen grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held for Mr. Engelmeyer from 5 – 7 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 4:30 p.m., all on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 in the St. Anthony Parish Hall, St. Anthony.
Visitation from 10 – 11 a.m., with the Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 a.m., all on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, in the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, St. Anthony, with Rev. Joby Thomas celebrating.
Interment with full military honors will be in the St. Anthony Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dixon. Pallbearers for Mr. Engelmeyer will be Scott Lubbering, James Rustemeyer, Alan Engelmeyer, Cody Engelmeyer, Matthew Joiner and Ron Lubbering.
Masses or Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice with envelopes available at the church or the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dixon.
