Bertha May Watson Johnson, of Dixon, was born on May 25, 1934, at Dixon, a daughter of William Claude and Emma Katy (Bacon) Watson, and departed this life at 4:17 a.m., Monday, September 16, 2013, at her residence near Dixon. Mrs. Johnson had attained the age of 79 years, 3 months and 21 days.
Mrs. Johnson was united in marriage to Harry W. Johnson, Jr. who preceded her in death. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father in 1962; her mother in 1982 and one sister, Alma Wyss in July of 1960.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Baptist Church in Camilla, Georgia and attended the United Methodist Church in Dixon. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, Post No. 4238, Dixon; the Moose Lodge in Albany, Georgia; and the Travelers Square Dance Organization. Mrs. Johnson had worked in the Dixon office of the Brown Shoe Factory and later as a nurse for Dr. Nickels, Waynesville as well as a bookkeeper for Tom's Electric Company in Albany, Georgia and most recently for Country Mart Grocery Store, Dixon.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Johnson include: one adopted son, Christopher Osteen; three step-children, Mike Johnson, Mary Ann Watson and Christopher Johnson; one brother, Small Watson, Dixon; one sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Charles Sherrell, Dixon; five step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held for Mrs. Johnson at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 22, 2013, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon with Gary Day, pastor of the Hancock Christian Church, Dixon, officiating.
Mrs. Johnson was a loving and giving person and has generously gifted her body to medical science.
