Betty June Stevenson Cathey, of Crocker, was born on January 2, 1928, at Springfield, Illinois, a daughter of Leonard and Mary Katherine (Null) Stevenson, and departed this life at 7:34 a.m., Sunday, December 14, 2014, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla. Mrs. Cathey had attained the age of 86 years, 11 months, and 12 days.
Mrs. Cathey was united in marriage on May 29, 1964, at Durant, Oklahoma, to John Cleveland Cathey. She was preceded in death by her husband on December 31, 1997; her parents; two brothers, Junior Miller and Carroll Stevenson; one sister, Frances Ann Miller; and one son-in-law, Buster Henson.
Mrs. Cathey was baptized early in life and became a member of the Sweet Home Christian Church, Crocker in 1985. She attended Sweet Home School from the age of six years until she graduated from the eighth grade. Mrs. Cathy was employed at the Fort Leonard Wood Laundry from 1944 to 1945, the Crocker Glove Factory, the Brown Shoe Company, Dixon, and Crestmark Window Company, Lewisville, Texas, retiring in January of 1982 and returning to Crocker where she had lived most of her life. She enjoyed cooking, tending to her flowers, gospel music and adored her little red headed great-great niece, Khloe. Mrs. Cathey never met a stranger and she enjoyed visiting with everyone. Precious memories will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Cathey include: one daughter, Carolyn Morton-Henson, Richland; three step-daughters, Deanna McCury, Joyce Wigger, and Beverly Beardmore, all of Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, Chris Miller and Bobby Miller, both of Crocker; two sisters, Shirleen Denham, El Paso, Texas and Elsie Smith, Wainwright, Oklahoma; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; nephews; nieces; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Cathey at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 16, 2014, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Crocker, with Bro. Bill Claiborn, Hilltop Christian Union Church, Crocker, officiating. "I'll Fly Away", "Sweet By and By", and "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder" were played for the service.
Interment was in the Antioch Cemetery, Crocker, under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Crocker. Pallbearers for Mrs. Cathey were Dizzy Carver, Jim Shockley, Tony Del Medico, Marty Collins, Greg Collins and Nathaniel Combs. Honorary pallbearers were Wayne LaChance and Eric Sorenson.
