Billie Carl Robbins of Dixon, was born on September 26, 1928, at Ava, MO, the son of Jessie Earl and Eula Marie (Cox) Robbins and departed this life at 8:44 p.m., Monday evening, April 22, 2019 in the University Hospitals and Clinics, Columbia. Mr. Robbins had attained the age of 90 years, 6 months and 27 days.
Mr. Robbins was united in marriage on September 4, 1952, at Orient, Iowa to Miss Lois Norine Caviness and to this union, three daughters were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his grandparents, L.S. and Lottie Cox, who raised him; one brother, Clyde Robbins and two sisters, Josephine Engelhardt and Betty Engelhardt.
At age 17, Mr. Robbins enlisted in the United States Army. He did his basic training at Ft Knox, Kentucky and then served 4 years in Germany. In 1949, he returned to the farm near Ava where he was raised. In 1951 he enlisted in the Air Force Strategic Air Command and served until 1953. He then returned to the Army for 15 years and attained the rank of 1SGT at the time of his retirement on November 1, 1969, having completed 22 years of active service. While in the service, Mr. Robbins accumulated the following medals; Good Conduct with 4 clusters, WW2 Victory, European Occupation, National Defense, Army Accommodation and the Viet Nam Campaign Medals.
Mr. Robbins and his family moved to Dixon in 1960 where his was active in Khoury League and Habitat for Humanity. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Dixon; a 50 year member of the Arlington Masonic Lodge Post No. 346 A.F. and A.M., Dixon and the American Legion Post No. 298, Dixon. He was owner and operator of his own construction business and later worked as a building trade's instructor at the vocational school in Waynesville. Mr. Robbins was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan and enjoyed woodworking and playing music.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Robbins include: his wife, Lois Robbins, Dixon; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carol Robbins, Brookfield; Linda and Jim Thompson, Jonesboro, Illinois and Susan and Buddy Miller, Dixon; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Edna McIntosh, Washington State and many other relatives and friends.
Masonic services will be conducted for Mr. Robbins on Thursday evening, April 25, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. under the auspices of the Arlington Lodge No. 346 A.F. & A.M, Dixon.
