Obituary

Charles Elvis Pentecost Sr., 88, husband of the late Dorothy Henson Pentecost of Crocker, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020, in the University Hospital and Clinics, Columbia. Missouri.

Born August 19, 1932 in Crider, Missouri, the son of Ely B. and Vesta Karr Pentecost.

Elvis, as he was affectionately known, was raised in the West Plains, Missouri area. He proudly served in the United States Air Force. On June 5, 1954 Elvis was united in marriage to the love of his life, Dorothy and they celebrated 57 years, 4 months, and 12 days together.

He invested nearly 60 years as a minister of the gospel. Through his time in the ministry, he impacted countless lives and was a strong Christian example for many. Charles had pastored at New Salem Baptist Church for nearly 22 years as well as the Gasconade Baptist Church for 20 years. He was interim Director of Missions of the Pulaski Baptist Association and member of the Masonic Lodge. Over the years Charles had worked in real estate and insurance sales as well as being an airplane mechanic foreman for McDonnell Douglas. For many years he enjoyed his CB Shop in Swedeborg.

He is survived by daughters, Dorothy Kay Becker, Richland, Charlotte Ann Shock, Brownsburg, Indiana and Carol Jean McCullah, Branson; sons, Carl Ray and wife, Lorien, Cascade, Montana and Charlie Jr. and wife, Sherri, Ozark; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and by a host of relatives and close friends, as well as nearly 2000 "unofficially" adopted family members.

In addition to his wife Dorothy, he was preceded in death by parents, Ely and Vesta  Pentecost; sons-in-law, Cecil Becker; William "Bill" Shock and Tim McCullah and siblings, Carl A. Pentecost,  Evelyn Nelson, and Jimmie Pentecost.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Grace Baptist Church, Richland, Missouri with visitation for friends and family starting at 1:00 p.m. all on Monday, January 4, 2021. Interment will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Waynesville, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Elvis in a special way may make donations in his memory to The Greater Springfield Area Fellowship of Christian Athletes at 2316 N. Benton Ave., Springfield, Missouri  65803 or to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee  38105.
