Charles Arthur Sears, of Dixon, was born on December 5, 1924, at Grandin, a son of Wiley and Myrtle (Hixson) Sears and departed this life at 6:51 p.m., Thursday evening, January 19, 2017, in the Lebanon South Nursing Home. Mr. Sears had been in failing health and had attained the age of 92 years, 1 month, and 14 days.


Mr. Sears was united in marriage on June 12, 1953 in Courtland, Illinois, to Maletta Sommer, and to this union, seven children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John Sears, Benjamin Sears and Joseph Sears and one sister, Mary Sears Linder.

Mr. Sears was a United States Army veteran having served from December 8, 1942 until his honorable discharge on November 17, 1947. He had worked as a farmer for most of his working life and had recently made a profession of faith and had accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Sears include: his former wife, Maletta Sears, Dixon; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Charles "Chuck" and Sherry Sears, Mexico, Missouri; Karl and Linda Sears; Andy Sears and Dale Sears, all of Dixon; three daughters, Cindy Sears, Shelley Moore and Gail Sears, all of Dixon; one sister, Peggy Pierce, Springfield; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren with one expected in the near future; and other relatives and friends.

Visitation for Mr. Sears will be from 3 – 5 p.m., Sunday, January 22, 2017 and from 10 – 11 a.m., Monday, January 23, 2017, all in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon.

The Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, January 23, 2017, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon. Interment with military honors will be in the Pisgah Cemetery near Dixon.
