Obituary

David Morris "Dave" Swetnam, of Crocker, was born on September 3, 1940, at Belvidere, New Jersey, a son of the late Robert and Mary Louise (Albertson) Swetnam and departed this life at 5:40 a.m., Tuesday, August 22, 2017, in the University Hospital and Clinics, Columbia. Mr. Swetnam had been in failing health and had attained the age of 76 years, 11 months and 19 days.

Mr. Swetnam was united in marriage on July 8, 1961, at Harmony, New Jersey to Carole Ann Bruden and to this union, four children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Louise.

Mr. Swetnam accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior and followed him in baptism, and at the time of his passing was a member of the First Baptist Church, Crocker, where he was licensed to preach and ordained by Pastor Ben VanKuren. He was an Adult Sunday school and Bible study teacher, and had served as the Chairman of Deacons, was on the Board of Directors of the Son-Shine Pre-School both of Mansfield Baptist Church, New Jersey. Mr. Swetnam was also a member of the National and Warren County Gideon's, serving as the treasurer and vice-president; a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes where he served on the Board of Directors of New Jersey, the Huddle Leader, the Northwest Representative, the Selection Committee for the State Director and was the Men's Breakfast Speaker.

Mr. Swetnam was a graduate of Belvidere High School, New Jersey; received an athletic scholarship to play basketball at Rider University, New Jersey where he received his Bachelor's Degree, and received his Master's Degree from East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania He was an outstanding teacher, had significant achievements in the field of athletics administration, and had served on numerous local, county, and state organizations and committees. His love of horses showed through training and showing horses, giving clinics and lessons in the 4-H program. A man of excellent character is a testimonial to his honest and faithful service to his faith and community.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Swetnam include: his wife, Carole Swetnam, Crocker; one son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Luzy Swetnam, Crocker; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lori and Randy Klimko, Bangor, Pennsylvania; Debbie and Bob Pettinari, Easton, Pennsylvania and Diane and Jim Wall, Richland; one brother and sister-in-law ,Robert and Marie Swetnam, High Point, North Carolina; one sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Chip Dilione, Bangor, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 1 – 2 p.m. with a memorial service celebrating Mr. Swetnam's life at 2 p.m., Sunday, September 3, 2017 in the First Baptist Church, Crocker with Pastor Robin Salsman officiating.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital with envelopes available at the First Baptist Church, Crocker or the Office of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home.
