Dennis Dexter "Dex" Boorom, age 79 of Crocker, was born on March 11, 1944, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Lester and Dahlia (Kreuger) Boorom and passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024 in the Lake Regional Health System, Osage Beach.
Dex was baptized into the Christian faith at Trinity Methodist Church, Waverly, in March 1944. He graduated from Waverly High School in 1962. Dex was confirmed at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in May, 1967 where his membership remained until his passing. He was united in marriage to Karen Grace Zander on July 29, 1967, at St. Paul Lutheran Church – Artesian. He was a member of the VFW of Crocker and for several years served his community as a Reserve Deputy of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department.
He was a veteran of the United States Army having served from April 5, 1965 until he was honorably discharged at Ft. Leonard Wood on April 4, 1968. Following his honorable discharge, he taught auto mechanics at the vo-tech school in Waynesville. In 1970, he began working at Post Pawn Store. In 1984, Dex and Karen purchased the Post Pawn Store and one year later, they purchased the Gateway Shopping Center. He retired in 2004 from pawn broking.
Dex loved fishing and hunting in the Midwest and Canada. He enjoyed several years of caretaking at a "resort" in Canada spending time with Iowa friends and meeting new friends. Another hobby of Dex's was woodworking. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and playing cards.
Dex is survived by his children, Daniel Boorom and wife, Kassandre, St. Robert, Missouri and Tonya Isaac and husband, Doug, Omaha, Nebraska; his six grandsons, Christopher Isaac and Hannah; Mason Boorom and Kyla; Anthony Isaac and wife, Nicki, Ethyn Boorom and wife, Johanna; Brian Boorom and wife, Madison and Aaron Isaac and Dillon; five great-grandchildren, Kaison, Rose, Bradley, Drew and Graham; and many other relatives and friends. Dex was preceded in death by his wife, Karen, his parents, Les and Dahlia, and brother, Gary Boorom.
Visitation will be held for Dex from 9:00 a.m. until the time of his service at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 981 Highway Z, St. Robert, MO. Visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. until the time of his Memorial service at St. Paul Lutheran Church – Artesian at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024. Interment will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery - Artesian, Waverly, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed to Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Robert. Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Crocker is assisting the family.
