Obituary

Leo Donald "Don" Whittle, age 91 of Crocker, was born on September 15, 1932, in Miller County, a son of Bert Granville and Sarah Lula (Brumley) Whittle and departed this life at 9:24 p.m., Sunday, September 24, 2023 in the Mercy Springfield.

Mr. Whittle was united in marriage on February 10, 1952, at Crocker to Miss Elsie Francis Helton and to this union, four children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife on June 16, 2020; his son, Steven Guy Whittle on July 25, 1976; his father in 1987; his mother in 1935 and two sisters, Marilyn Whittle and Louise Barnett.

Mr. Whittle was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was baptized in 1957 in the Tavern Creek and was a member of the Concord Christian Church. He was a member of the Crocker VFW; the Disabled veterans and the American Legion and the Crocker Saddle Club. He had worked as a carpenter for most of his working life and enjoyed farming, working with horses, cattle and dogs.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Whittle include: his children and their spouses, Bert and Diane Whittle and Gene and Julie Whittle all of Crocker and Donna and Tom Walters, Richland; his daughter-in-law, Nina Smith and her husband, Gary; nine grandchildren, Jamie, Jennifer, Anissa, Butch, Daniel, Rebecca, Fawn, Dalton and Leslie; 20 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Phillip Tannehill, Fairbanks, Alaska; his sister, Margie Geiger, Poplar Bluff; sisters-in-law, Martha Lou Helton and Sheila Helton and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m., Wednesday, September 27, 2023 and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2023 with his funeral immediately following at 11 a.m., all in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Crocker.

Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Iberia under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Crocker.

Memorial contributions are suggested by the family to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Crocker.
