Donald Dean Colby, 86, of Dixon, was born on June 28, 1936, at Phillipsburg, Kansas a son of Benjamin and Geneva (Armet) Colby and departed this life at 9:10 a.m., on Friday, August 19, 2022 in the Cedar Pointe Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Rolla.
Mr. Colby was united in marriage in 1957 at New Windsor, Maryland to Miss Dolores L. Albright. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Geneva Colby; one son, Calvin Reed; one daughter, Ingrid Colby and several brothers and sisters.
In 1953, Mr. Colby enlisted in the United States Army and went on to serve just over 20 years. He served during the Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam War, retiring in 1973 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. A man of excellent character, his "Honorable Discharge" is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to his country.
Mr. Colby was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, St. Robert. Following his career in the Military, he drove for Butler Trucking for over six years and in his spare time, he and his wife enjoyed going to car shows.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Colby include: his wife, Dolores Colby of the home near Dixon; one son, Clarence Colby, Dixon; two daughters and one son-in-law, Linda and James Bellamy, Rock, West Virginia and Jennifer Colby, state of Pennsylvania; one brother, Darrel Colby, Phillipsburg, Kansas; four grandchildren, James Bellamy, Donald Bellamy, David Harford and Madison Harford and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10 – 10:45 a.m., Monday, August 29, 2022 in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon.
Interment with full military honors will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, August 29, 2022 in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Waynesville under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dixon.
