Donald Howard Mayhew, age 89, of Crocker, was born on January 10, 1932, at East St. Louis, Illinois a son of Howard Melville and Helen Margaret (Rolsten) Mayhew and departed this life at 9:20 p.m., Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at his residence.

Mr. Mayhew was united in marriage on January 27, 1951, at Richland, to Miss Dorothy Irene Boren and to this union, ten children were born. He was preceded in death by his son, Danny Mayhew; his parents, Howard and Helen and two brothers, Robert and Richard Mayhew.

Mr. Mayhew had a strong belief and faith in God. He was a 1950 graduate of Crocker High School and then honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1951 until 1955. Following being in the Navy, he had been employed as a local truck driver. Mr. Mayhew enjoyed fishing, watching football and baseball, deer hunting, being with his children and grandchildren, family gatherings and studying his Bible.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Mayhew include: his wife of just over 70 years, Dorothy Mayhew, Crocker; his children, Donald B. (Deanna) Mayhew, Crocker, David (Melissa) Mayhew, Knob Noster, Donna (Randy) Schafer, Foley, Minnesota, Debra Sash, Eldon, Darlene Mayhew and Diana Mayhew, both of Crocker, Denise (Darrel) McAvoy, Big Sandy, Texas, Dorothy Mayhew, Osage Beach and Doreen (Sam) Douglas, Mexico, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Carrie Mayhew, Eldon; his brother, Gerald (Marilyn) Mayhew of the state of Virginia; his sister, Maxine (Jack) Overby, Crocker; thirty-four grandchildren; fifty-four great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Crocker. Family members will share fond memories of Mr. Mayhew's life.

Interment with full military honors will be in the Crocker Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Crocker. Pallbearers for Mr. Mayhew are Dustin Mayhew, Scotty Mayhew, Johnathan Sash, Matt Schafer, Isaac McAvoy, Weston McCulley, Derek Kelley, and Brendon Douglas. Honorary pallbearers are Jason Schafer, Joseph Sash, Dillon Mayhew, Jerod McCulley, Ethan Mayhew, William McAvoy, Dalton Mayhew and Jacob Douglas.
