Dorothy M. Curry, of Crocker, was born on November 13, 1918, in Miller County, a daughter of John M. and Emma V. (McMillian) Carroll, and departed this life at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, September 20, 2012 in the Dixon Nursing and Rehab Center, Dixon. Mrs. Curry had attained the age of 93 years, 10 months and 7 days.
Mrs. Curry was united in marriage on April 4, 1942, at Camdenton, to Ernest Curry and to this union, five children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband on January 3, 2007; her father on August 12, 1963; her mother on February 1, 1992; three children, Tommy, Lonnie and Bonnie Curry; one grandson, David Ray Curry; four brothers, Ernest Carroll, Harold Carroll, Sidney Carroll and David Carroll; and three sisters, Clara Moss, Lorene Anderson and Blanche Barnett.
Mrs. Curry was a faithful member of the Assembly of God Church, Crocker. She had accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and followed her Lord in Baptism in July 1960. Mrs. Curry was a school teacher for over 30 years. She enjoyed playing games, making quilts and spending time with her family.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Curry include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Sandy Curry, Crocker and Gene and Marlene Curry, Belle; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Margie Carroll, Cuba and Bob and Beth Carroll, Dixon; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Betty Cross, Dixon and Jane and Robert Rigsby, Springfield; sisters-in-law, Ruby Carroll and Evelyn Carroll; three grandchildren, Adam Curry, Amy Reed and Jeff Curry; eight great-grandchildren, Ashly Brown, Joshua Curry, Jacob Curry, Gerica Curry, Devin Curry, Garrett Curry, Ellis Reed and Bryce Reed; one great-great-grandson, Tucker Brown; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Curry at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 23, 2012 in the Assembly of God Church, Crocker with Bro. Billy Claiborn, Hilltop Christian Union Church, Crocker, officiating. Her Sunday school teacher, James Routh opened the service with a prayer and read Mrs. Curry's obituary. "Never Grow Old", "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Peace in the Valley" were played for the service.
Interment was in the Bethany Cemetery, near Crocker, under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Crocker. Pallbearers for Mrs. Curry were Joshua Curry, Adam Curry, Devin Curry, Andy Reed, Brett Brown and Joe Frazier. Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Curry and Garrett Curry.
Memorials are suggested by the family to the Bethany Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Crocker.
