Obituary

Dorothy Long, of Dixon, was born on August 13, 1913, at Waynesville, a daughter of George David and Cora Jane (Patton) Simpson and departed this life at 8:05 p.m., Monday, July 23, 2012, in the Dixon Nursing and Rehab Center. Mrs. Long had been in failing health for some time and had attained the age of 98 years, 11 months and 10 days.

Mrs. Long was united in marriage on July 27, 1931 at Houston, Missouri, to Lloyd L. Long and to this union one son was born. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 23, 1985; her parents; two brothers, Frank and Willard Simpson and four sisters, Etta Manes, Irene Craven, Mae Manes and Nancy Hance.

Mrs. Long was a member of the Sheppard Baptist Church Dixon and had worked at Brown Shoe Company, Dixon, as a Top Stitcher for over 18 years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting and her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Long include: one son and daughter-in-law, Vernon L. and Peggy Long, Dixon; three grandchildren, Randy Long and wife, Teresa, Dixon; Mike Long and wife, Anthanett, Springfield; Diane Easterling and husband, David, Dixon; nine great-grandchildren, Gary and wife, Maria, Josh, Jenna, Jace, Brock and wife, Tessa and Rocco and wife, Angela Long, Rody Clark and husband, Nick, Jeramie and wife, Shannon and Judd and wife, Jessica Easterling; six great-great grandchildren, Ainsley, Avalyn, Acelin, Roslyn, Alex and Brooke; her sister-in-law, Mercedes Simpson; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Long were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 26, 2012, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon, with Pastor David Vanzant, Sheppard Baptist Church, officiating. Tracy Ray and Kim Roach sang "Haven of Rest" and "Sweet Peace" for the service.

Interment was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Dixon. Pallbearers for Mrs. Long were Josh Long, Gary Long, Jeramie Easterling, Judd Easterling, Jenna Long, Jace Long, Brock Long, Rocco Long and Rody Clark. Honorary pallbearers were Danny Simpson, Ronald Craven, Lester Long, Gary Broadway, Basil Rushing, Ken Forrest, Charley Pennebaker, Mike Woods and Nick Clark.

Memorials are suggested by the family to the Sheppard Baptist Church, Dixon, with envelopes available at the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home, Dixon.
