Dorothy Ellen Sloan, of Dixon, was born on February 11, 1945, near Beaverville, Illinois, a daughter of Raymond David and Mearl Mae (Jones) Rollins, and departed this life at 1:15 p.m., Friday, November 25, 2016, in the Cox Hospital South, Springfield. Dorothy had attained the age of 71 years, 9 months, and 14 days.
Dorothy was united in marriage on February 20, 1970, at Dixon, to Leroy Marvin Sloan who preceded her in death on October 23, 2007. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father, Raymond on August 20, 1947; her mother, Mearl Clark on November 25, 2001; her step-father, Eckles Clark on June 26, 1998.
Dorothy was baptized early in life and was an active member of the Living Word Worship Center, Dixon as long as her health permitted. In her earlier years, she had worked in clerical and sales jobs as well as being a beautiful, kind, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She loved spending time with her family, reading (especially her Bible), taking care of her home and dog, Mattie, traveling, preparing special food dishes for her family, working in her flower garden and sending greeting cards to family and friends.
Those left to mourn the passing of Dorothy include: one son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Lana Sloan, Bolivar; one daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Randy Doyle, Dixon; one brother, Glenn Clark, Dixon and his former wife, Jackie; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Kathleen Rujawitz, Dixon and Ruth and Don Veasman, Lone Tree, Colorado; five grandchildren, Lydia Regier and her husband, Chris, Derek Sloan, Hayden Doyle, Parker Doyle and Ivy Doyle; nephews; nieces; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held for Dorothy at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 30, 2016, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon with Pastor Tom Cromwell, Living Word Worship Center, Dixon officiating.
Interment was in the West Fairview Cemetery near Dixon under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dixon. Pallbearers for Dorothy were Jim Rujawitz, Jeff Rujawitz, Drake Rujawitz, Doug Roam, Steve Sloan and Kim Barnett. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren, Lydia Regier, Chris Regier, Derek Sloan, Hayden Doyle, Parker Doyle and Ivy Doyle.
