Duane Michael Mitchell, of Dixon, was born on September 24, 1949, in Kansas City, Kansas, a son of James and Ruth (Sullivan) Mitchell and departed this life at 12:49 p.m., Saturday, August 15, 2015, at his residence near Dixon. Duane had attained the age of 65 years, 10 months, and 22 days.
Duane was united in marriage on September 20, 1997, at Independence, to Muff ( Lou Jean) Bloom. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruth, brother, James Mitchell, Jr.
Duane was a United States Army veteran and had worked as an Executive Vice-President for Citi Group in the collections department retiring at age 47 due to failing health. He was the Pastor at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Dixon for six years. Duane was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and at the time of his passing was attending the Ozark Highlands Christian Church of Rolla. Duane served as a Gideon for the Independence and Versailes Chapter.
Duane is survived by his wife, Muff (Lou Jean) Mitchell, 2 daughters Maria and husband Michael Scanlan, Julie Hunter and husband, Jerry, a son, Rawlin Bloom and his wife, Sarah, and grandchildren, Mason Scanlan, Trevor Bloom and his Fiancé, Lauren; Alex Hunter, Ian Hunter; nephew, Jeff Mitchell and wife Janette and a niece, Allison and a brother-in-law Garland Schnack and wife Eileen; and much loved relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held for Duane at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2015, in the West Lake Christian Church on O Road in Laurie, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Westlake Christian Church, Ozark Highlands Christian Church, and Habitat for Humanity of Morgan County.
