Obituary

Elsie Marie Spurgeon, of Dixon, was born on March 21, 1936, at Lebanon, Oregon, a daughter of Samuel and Vera (Yeager) Kimball and departed this life at 2:51 p.m., Monday, December 11, 2017, in the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics, Columbia. Mrs. Spurgeon had attained the age of 81 years, 9 months and 20 days.

Mrs. Spurgeon was united in marriage on January 16, 1953, at Vancouver, Washington to Burgess Uriah Spurgeon and to this union ten children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband on January 1, 2003; her father on July 17, 1975; her mother on January 30, 1949; one infant son, Samuel Spurgeon; one grandson, Jason Levi French; one brother, Samuel Kimball and two sisters, Dorothy (Kimball) Werner and Millie (Kimball) Renoud.

Mrs. Spurgeon accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and followed her Lord in baptism as young child. She had worked at Brown Shoe Company for over 20 years and when they closed, Mrs. Spurgeon went back to college where she obtained her Bachelor Degree in computer science from Columbia College and graduated Cum Laude. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, painting, playing Jeopardy, playing hymns for churches, classical piano music and being with her family.

Those left to mourn the passing of Elsie include: three sons and two daughters-in-law, Randall and Brenda Spurgeon, Clarksville, Tennessee; Calvin Spurgeon, Simpsonville, South Carolina and Bob E. and Michelle Spurgeon, Dixon; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Teresa and Ed Moats, Arlington, Washington; Dawn Wagoner, Dixon; Dorania and Evangelista Lebron, Dixon; Audrey and Glenn Gray, Fair Play, South Carolina; Millie Hardwick, Waynesville and Beverly and Paul Watson, Dixon; one sister, Murna (Kimball) Crace, Jefferson City; 23 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Spurgeon at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 15, 2017, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon, with Pastor Tom Cromwell officiating.

Interment was in the Kenner Cemetery near Dixon under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dixon. Pallbearers for Mrs. Spurgeon were Israel Doba, Joshua Spurgeon, Bill Hardwick, Samuel Hardwick, Elijah Spurgeon and Nathan Spurgeon. Honorary pallbearers were Jared French, Joseph Hardwick, Caleb Spurgeon, Chad Gray, Casey Gray and Jacob Wagoner.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the wishes of the family with envelopes available at the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dixon.
