Erwin J. "Ernie" Hansmann, of Dixon, was born on July 26, 1935, at Dixon, a son of Erwin William and Nell Lee (Fidler) Hansmann, and departed this life on Saturday, September 7, 2013, in the Dixon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dixon. Mr. Hansmann had been in failing health for some time and had attained the age of 78 years, 1 month, and 11 days.
Mr. Hansmann was united in marriage in July 1967, in South Dakota to Bonnie Jean Sumner. He was preceded in death by his father, Erwin William Hansmann; his parents, Virgil E. and Nell Mann; and one grandson, Christopher Hansmann.
Mr. Hansmann entered in to federal active duty on September 15, 1952 and served in the United States Marine Corp until September 14, 1955. He worked for National Geodetic Survey as a surveying technician. Mr. Hansmann was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4238, Dixon and the American Legion Post No. 298, Dixon, he enjoyed leather working and collecting coins.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Hansmann include: his wife, Bonnie Hansmann, Dixon; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Vicky Hansmann and Chris and Donna Hansmann, all of Marguand and Les and LaDonna Hansmann, Dixon; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Junior Poe, Marquand; two brothers, Virgil Lee Mann, Pacific and Stephen Michael Mann, St. Louis; one sister, Edna Marguerite Locke, St. Charles; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5 - 7 p.m., Friday, September 13, 2013, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chape, Dixon.
Funeral services will be conducted for Mr. Hansmann at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 14, 2013, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon with Chaplain Mike Mann, St. Louis, officiating.
Interment with full military honors will be in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services.
