Obituary

Evar Lowell "Jake" Jacobson, of Swedeborg, was born on October 19, 1930, at Swedeborg, a son of Evar and Gertrude (Carroll) Jacobson, and departed this life at 8:02 a.m., Saturday, October 11, 2014, in the Mercy Hospital, Springfield. Mr. Jacobson had attained the age of 83 years, 11 months, and 12 days.

Mr. Jacobson was united in marriage to Mary Ann Manes and to this union, they were blessed with three children. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lucille York.

Mr. Jacobson accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at the tender age of 14 years and was a faithful member of the Swedeborg Baptist Church. On February 19, 1951, Mr. Jacobson joined the United States Navy and served until February 9, 1955, during the Korean Conflict. He served on the USS Warrick-89 and the USS Genesse A05-8. Following his military career, Mr. Jacobson was a lifelong farmer and worked as a heavy equipment mechanic at Fort Leonard Wood. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post No. 4956, Crocker.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Jacobson include: his wife of over 60 years, Mary Ann Jacobson, Swedeborg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Lynn Jacobson, Swedeborg and Scott and Becky Jacobson, Branson; one daughter and son-in-law, Roxane and Jerry Thornsberry, Crocker; three grandchildren, Amanda (Jake) Starnes, Crocker; Alaina Jacobson, Richmond Heights and Marlee (Corey) Smith, Nashville, Tennessee; one great-granddaughter, Kellie Starnes; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral service were conducted for Mr. Jacobson at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 14, 2014, in the Swedeborg Baptist Church, with Bro. Jim Barton, pastor of the Swedeborg Baptist Church and Bro. Doug Jacobson, pastor of the Eureka Baptist Church, Richland officiating.

Interment with full military honors was in the Swede/St. Johns Cemetery, Swedeborg under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services. Pallbearers for Mr. Jacobson were Greg Black, Chris Black, Charlie Davis, John Henson, Jake Starnes, and Jerry Thornsberry. Honorary pallbearers were Roy York, Bill Morrow, and Brett Kinsley.

Memorials are suggested by the family to the Swede/St. Johns Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund or to the World Hunger in care of the Swedeborg Baptist Church, Swedeborg.
