Obituary

Georgia Lillian (Sooter) Beydler was born into a loving home on April 17, 1936, to Dorsie Virgil and Eunice Esther (Riddle) Sooter, near Dixon on Jones Creek at the home of her maternal grandparents Samuel and Lillian (Richardson) Riddle. She departed this life surrounded by family on July 2, 2024, in Springfield, Missouri.

In addition to her parents, Georgia was preceded in death by infant sister Eunice Esther, brother Robert, and her mother-in-law and father-in-law Dorothy and Joe Beydler.

Georgia is survived by Billy, her husband of 67 years; five children Van (Jefferson City), Hylan (Rolla), Bill (Nancy) of Kansas City, Mo.; Scott of Thomasville, NC; and Sammy (Rich) of Springfield; two Grandchildren Chase (Allison) and Julie (Joe Barber); great grandchildren Camden, Emma, and Silas; brother Dean Sooter, sister Barbara (John) Wessner; sisters-in-law Josephine Roberson, Virginia (Donovan) Myer, Helen Beydler, Lois (Alexander Beydler) Durham, and Sharon Sooter; aunt Clara Sooter; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Georgia accepted Jesus as her personal savior at a young age, and was a member of Dixon First Baptist Church where she was baptized.

When Georgia was a freshman in high school, her family moved from Rolla to Dixon. Billy was enamored immediately. A long-time friend recently said Billy chased her with a vengeance and that he was the lucky one, he added that she was the brains of the bunch. They later married September 15, 1956 at Dixon First Baptist Church.

Georgia was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She dearly loved her family and they loved her beyond measure. She was a wonderful homemaker and an accomplished businesswoman (having owned and managed several businesses with Billy), a clerk at the Pulaski County Courthouse, a real estate agent and secretary with Bassett Insurance and Realty, and a hair stylist. Her last job outside the home was with Greene County Health Department in Springfield.

Georgia, also known lovingly by many as Georgie, was a talented artist, seamstress, gardener, photographer, and crafter, most notably for having a contract with Silver Dollar City for handmade dolls. She was a great cook. Her children often make and share her recipes of their favorite dishes, some of which include enchiladas, juicy burgers, and Bugs Bunny Stew, which actually contains no rabbit. She named it after the cartoon character so the kids would eat it. Freshly baked chocolate cake was a popular dessert prepared in Georgia's kitchen.

Georgia had an incredibly caring nature. Loving and nurturing, with a wonderful sense of humor, and sweet wit, Georgia was like a mother to many of her children's friends throughout her life. Of course her kids agree with a friend who recently said Georgia was the perfect mom for everyone.

She also was a faithful friend to her schoolmates. She had many meaningful relationships and enjoyed lifelong friendships with Virginia Beydler Myer, Shirley Pendleton Helton, Wanda Martin Milligan, and the late Rhonda Goforth Holman.
