Obituary

Gertrude Leona Veasman, of rural Dixon, was born on January 19, 1912, near Brinktown, a daughter of John William and Elizabeth Ann (Traister) Bremer, and departed this life at 5:29 a.m., Sunday, May 19, 2013, in the Dixon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dixon, following a brief illness. Mrs. Veasman had attained the age of 101 years and 4 months.

Mrs. Veasman was united in marriage on September 18, 1930, at Vienna, to Hugh Veasman and to this union, six children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993; an infant son, Hughie Clyde Veasman at age one month in 1936; her father in 1952; her mother in 1958; four brothers: Herman Bremer, Omer Bremer, Lester Bremer and John Bremer; and four sisters, Sadie Crismon, Elvie Martin, Minnie Rowden and Emma Hill.

Mrs. Veasman was a member of the Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Brinktown. She was a hard working woman and had been employed at McFarland's Nursing Home from 1963 until 1971, as well as being a loving and devoted housewife and homemaker. Mrs. Veasman enjoyed her family and grandchildren, quilting, putting puzzles together, her dogs, enjoying life and having fun.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Veasman include: three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gerald and Ella Mae Veasman; Omer Veasman and Kenneth and Linda Veasman, all of Dixon; two daughters and one brother-in-law, Marcella Bure, Brinktown and Donna and Don Knapp, Dixon; one sister, Jeramine Withers, Dixon; twenty-two grandchildren; forty-two great-grandchildren; twenty-three great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

A Rosary service was held for Mrs. Veasman at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 21, 2013, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon, with the Rev. Walter E. Reisinger leading.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mrs. Veasman at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2013, in the Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Brinktown with the Rev. Msgr. Marion J. Makarewicz and the Rev. Walter E. Reisinger, concelebrating. Dana Simmons provided appropriate Catholic hymns.

Interment was in the Guardian Angels Catholic Cemetery, Brinktown, under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services. Pallbearers for Mrs. Veasman were Jeffrey Veasman, Steve Vineyard, Daniel Veasman, John Veasman, Greg Veasman and Brian Knapp. Honorary pallbearers were Anthony Veasman and Joe Veasman.
