Obituary

James Edward "Jim" Singleton of Crocker, was born on December 21, 1926, at Crocker, a son of James and Myrtle (Sloan) Singleton and departed this life at 12:40 a.m., Sunday, Aril 30, 2017 in the Life Care Center of Waynesville. Mr. Singleton had been in failing health and had attained the age of 90 years, 4 months and 9 days.

Mr. Singleton was united in marriage on September 19, 1953 at Swedeborg, to Darlene Plemmons and to this union, five children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife on May 15, 2003; one son, J.D. Singleton; one grandson, Bradley Clark; his parents and his brothers and sisters.

Mr. Singleton was a member of the Hilltop Christian Union Church and had been a farmer for all his working life. In 1976, Mr. Singleton was able to take the trip of a life time when went by covered wagon on the Bicentennial Wagon Train to Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. It took two months to travel, starting in May and returning in July, they would average 20 miles a day with his team of two mules. There were teams and wagons from each state to include Alaska and Hawaii.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Singleton include: his son and daughter-in-law, Rowdy and Crystal Singleton, Crocker; his three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kathy Clark, Karolyn and Ken Reiter and Polly and Ed Wright, all of Crocker; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren with one expected in the near future and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Singleton at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 4, 2017, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Crocker with Bro. Bill Claiborn, Hilltop Christian Union Church, Crocker officiating.

Interment was in the Crocker Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Crocker. Pallbearers for Mr. Singleton were Travis Harrison, Trent Harrison, James Decker, Justin Reiter, Randy Ellis and Tony Wright. Honorary pallbearer was Scotty McMahan.
