Jimmy Thompson, of Dixon, was born on December 6, 1929, near Argyle, a son of William Ambrose and Lula (Deardeuff) Thompson, and departed this life at 5:30 a.m., Sunday, December 7, 2014. Mr. Thompson had attained the age of 85 years and 1 day.
Jimmy was united in marriage on April 7, 1951, at the Assembly of God Church, Dixon, to Ethel Lorene Fritchey, and to this union, three sons were born. Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife on June 10, 2013; one son, Randy Thompson on July 28, 2013; his father in March of 1969; his mother in June of 1969; five brothers, Ray, Kimsey, George, Marcie and Virgil Thompson; and five sisters, Dessie Helton, Gladys Fritchey, Mamie Oliver, Agnes Weider and Margrett Wagner.
Jimmy and his wife, Lorene attended several churches and revivals throughout the state of Missouri and were the Pastors and song leaders of the Seaton Church for over 20 years. His love for the Lord, his family, friends and music was a living testimony to all who were blessed to share him in their lives. His meek, compassionate, giving soul, sparkling eyes, forgiving smile and smooth country melody will forever live on in those who were honored to have known him. Jimmy always let the music tell his story and he never knew a stranger. His heart was full of thanks, giving and a strong yearning for his heavenly home.
Jimmy was known as the hardest and fastest working self-employed lumber cutter in the Dixon/Vienna area. He was an avid singer, song writer and Bible scripture studier. Along with being an outdoorsman, he loved gardening, decorating his lawn and spending his days fishing and being on the lake at his summer cabin. Jimmy had many activities and hobbies, especially in his earlier years, but his true pride was enjoying a good meal, drinking coffee and catching fish with his sons, couponing with his daughter-in-law, cheering at sporting and school events for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but most of all spending time with his best friend and love of his life, his wife, Lorene. He was and will always be known as the model husband, father, grandfather, Poppy, uncle, brother and true friend.
Those left with precious and dear memories of Jimmy include: two sons and one daughter-in-law, Dennis and Charolett Thompson, Dixon and Scott Thompson, Oil City, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Rhonda and Rob Maddox, "Little Jimmy" James Thompson, Nichole Thompson and Joey Thompson; seven great-grandchildren, Justin, Skylar, Haleigh, Brooklyn, Ryder, Cassie and Ethan; three great-great-grandchildren, Jenah, James and Jaxon; and infinite family and friends.
