James Joseph "Jim" Williams, of Dixon, was born on September 30, 1933, in Maries County, a son of Dolph and Thelma (Newkirk) Williams, and departed this life at 7:20 p.m., Monday, October 21, 2013, in the University Hospital in Columbia. He had attained the age of 80 years and 21 days.
Jim was united in marriage on March 14, 1953, at Valdosta, Georgia, to Patricia Ruth Doyel and to this union, three children were born. He was preceded in death by his father on January 14, 1990 and his mother on September 25, 2005.
Jim was a member of the First Christian Church in Dixon. During his high school years, he played basketball, baseball and golf and won state records for the high jump and broad jump. Jim retired from Gascosage Electric Company, Dixon, were he had worked as a lineman and foreman.
Those left to mourn his passing include: his wife, Pat Williams, Dixon; one son, Jeff Williams, Rolla; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Marty Rickerson, Dixon and Connie and Roy Taylor, St. James; one brother, Russell Williams, Dixon; one sister, Lois McDowell, Granite City, Illinois; two granddaughters, Carly Rickerson, Silver Springs, Maryland and Rebecca Milton and her husband, Jayson, Springfield; one great-grandson expected in December; nephews; nieces; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Dixon and a memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Adrienne Cormier officiating.
Private burial will be held at a later date in the Dixon Cemetery.
