Jimmie Ray Evans, age 93, of Dixon, was born on February 27, 1930, at Dixon, a son of Lloyd James and Blanche (Slone) Evans and departed this life on Friday morning, August 25, 2023 in the Dixon Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Mr. Evans was united in marriage on December 23, 1950, in the First Baptist Church, Dixon to the former Miss Sue Ann Vernatti and to this union, two children were born. He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd in 1986; his mother, Blanche in 2000; one brother, Donald Gene Evans in 1990 and one sister, Dorothy Louise Evans in 1935.
Mr. Evans was baptized early in life and had been a member of the First Christian Church of Dixon since 1942. He was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict in the 180th Infantry Regiment of the 45th Infantry Division from 1952-1953, and a member of the Arlington Masonic Lodge Number 346, A.F. & A.M., Dixon since 1956.
Mr. Evans had worked at Ft. Leonard Wood Civil Service retiring in 1987. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and country music, but his greatest pride was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to mourn but cherish the memories of Mr. Evans include: his wife, Sue Evans of the home in Dixon; their children, Bruce Evans, St. Charles and Pam (Steve) Beltz, Springfield; one sister, Ruth Ann DeLara, Joliet, Illinois; two grandchildren, Miranda (Jared) Taylor and Emily Sneed; five great-grandchildren, Skyler Davidson, Chloe Davidson, Sage Taylor, Alyssa Taylor and Erin Taylor; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held for Mr. Evans from 11 a.m. until the time of his funeral at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon with Pastor Danny Bassett, Burnett Christian Church, officiating.
Interment will be in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dixon.
Memorial contributions are suggested by the family to the Dixon Senior Center with envelopes available at the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home, Dixon.
