John Rex Porter, Jr., of Rolla, was born July 28, 1948, at La Porte, Indiana, a son of John Rex and Ramona (Eberlie) Porter, Sr., and departed this life at 9:16 p.m., Wednesday evening, October 22, 2014, at his residence near Rolla. John had attained the age of 66 years, 2 months, and 25 days.
He was united in marriage on July 23, 1973, at Waynesville, to the former Mary Lou Corey. John was preceded in death by his parents, and one infant brother, David Porter.
He was retired from the United States Army where he faithfully served for twenty-six years retiring in May of 1993, when he was honorably discharged. Following retirement he was a delivery driver for O'Reilly Auto Parts and enjoyed movies and reading.
Those left to mourn the passing of John include: His wife, Mary Porter, Rolla; two sons, Billy Roy (Dawn) Walker, Texas; and John Rex (Debbie) Porter III, Kansas; two daughters, Rhonda (Darrell) Monshower, Kansas; Angel (James) Wetzel, Indiana; two brothers, Michael Eugene Porter and Jerry Porter both of Indiana; three sisters, Penny Young, Indiana; Paula Scott, Kentucky; and Terri Seaman, Kansas; eleven grandchildren, Dustin, Ashley, Alexia, Shania, Nicole, Rachel, Matthew, Kenny, Johnny, Ronnie, Tapanga (Skeeter); four great-grandchildren, Evin, Emily, Akeela and Roy; and many other relatives and friends.
Graveside funeral services with full military honors were conducted for John at 11:00 a.m., on Monday morning, October 27, 2014, in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Waynesville, under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Dixon, with Chaplain Daryl Densford, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, officiating.
