Obituary

John Francis Scott, age 78, of St. Robert, formerly of Dixon, was born December 7, 1946, a son of Elmer D.  and Genevieve Angeline (Watson) Scott, and passed from this life on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in the University of Missouri Hospital, Columbia.

He was married on April 18, 1969, in Manheim, Germany, to the former Ms. Uda Marga Becker, who preceded him in death on March 25, 2015. Later in life, John married Jamie Stovall.

In 1966, in St. Louis, Missouri, John entered active federal service in the United States Army and served until March 31, 1986, when he was honorably discharged at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, retiring at the rank of Sergeant First Class. While serving his country John was a truck driver and was awarded several medals including: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Medal with three bronze service stars,  Army Commendation Medal with 2D Oak leaf cluster, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal with 6th Award, Meritorious Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Medal Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon 3D Level, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon 5th Award, and a Sharpshooter Qualification Badge M16. A man of excellent character, John's Honorable Discharge is a testimony of selfless and faithful service to his country.

Those left to mourn the passing of John include: his wife Jamie of the home; his son, John Michael McGovern; his daughter, Francine Morgan; five grandchildren, Eric, Ashley, Taylor, Autumn, and Christopher; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Scott Norris, and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his first wife, Uda, he was preceded in death by his father, Elmer; his mother, Genevieve, his brothers, infant Stephen, David Whitaker, Charles Scott and James Scott; and one sister, Linda Plank.

The funeral service for John Scott will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2025, in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 25350 State Highway H, Waynesville, MO 65583, followed by his interment with full military honors, under the direction of Martin-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dixon.

Memorial contributions in memory of John are suggested by his family to the Local Veterans Organization of your choice, with envelopes available at the cemetery the day of his service or in care of Martin-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, P.O. Box GG, Dixon, MO 65459.
