Joseph K.
Smith
Sep 11, 1954 — Mar 18, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph Smith, a devoted grandfather, patriot, and lover of the simple joys in life. Joe passed away on Tuesday, March 18th, 2025 at the age of 70.
Born on September 11, 1954 to Howard Smith and Helen Fellows in Conover, North Carolina.
Joe lived a life rich in experiences and filled with love. His greatest joy was his family, particularly his grandchildren, Jason and Weston. He cherished every moment spent with them, creating lasting memories through lego building, yard work, baking, and playing outside. His warm smile and gentle guidance will be deeply missed.
A proud US citizen, Joseph held a deep respect for his country and its history. Serving as a correctional officer for the state prison system for 20 years.
Joe found solace and happiness in the outdoors. Whether it was gardening, walking the dogs, or beautifying the property, he felt most at peace surrounded by nature's beauty. His passion for antiquing was another cherished pastime, and he delighted in discovering treasures with stories to tell.
A day was never complete without a good cup of coffee, often enjoyed alongside his beloved animal companions, Boo, Oliver, and Gemini and granddog, Henry. His animals were a constant source of comfort and companionship.
Joseph was a man of unwavering kindness and integrity. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, and was only a phone call away when needed. Whether it was fixing a leaky faucet or simply listening to a friend in need, he'd often say, with a reassuring smile, 'I have nothing but time.' And when he did offer his assistance, a rare and special 'I don't do that for just anybody' often followed, a testament to his loyalty and the depth of his care. His willingness to help others touched the lives of many with his generous spirit and unwavering support.
He is survived by his wife Deborah Smith; two-children, Ashley Smith [Derick Taylor], Ryan [Karin] Smith; six grandchildren: Nicholas, Christopher, Hunter, Emma, Jason, and Weston; three great grandchildren; one sibling; Jack Smith.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hellen Fellows; his sister, Carol Carter and sister Kathie Turner.
Joe found joy in the simple things: a good cup of coffee, a day spent outdoors, and the company of his family and animals. His genuine nature and unwavering kindness touched all who knew him. His familiar phrases, 'I have nothing but time' and 'I don't do that for just anybody,' captured the essence of his character—generous, loyal, and deeply caring. We will carry his memory with us, a reminder to cherish the moments, embrace the simple joys, and always lend a helping hand.
