Joyce Lois Wilkerson, of Columbia, formerly of Crocker, was born on June 6, 1928, in Waynesville, a daughter of Jess and Cora (Eldridge) Brotherton and departed this life at 9:40 a.m., Wednesday, September 26, 2012, in the Parkside Manor, Columbia. Mrs. Wilkerson had attained the age of 84 years, 3 months and 20 days.
Mrs. Wilkerson was united in marriage on February 27, 1948 to Bobby Gene Wilkerson, and to this union, one son was born, John Wilkerson. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 11, 1998; her parents; one brother, Don Brotherton and three sisters, Bonnie Hacker, Lela Bennett and Delois Gilbert.
Mrs. Wilkerson was a housewife and homemaker for all her working life, always diligent in providing for the needs of her family. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, going to yard sales, her dog, JoJo, and being with her grandchildren.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Wilkerson include: her son and daughter-in-law, John and Joan Wilkerson, Fulton, MO; two grandchildren, Kasey Hodges and her husband, J.T. and Kourtney Bryan and her husband, Joey; two great-grandchildren, Tatum Belle Bryan and Charlee Joy Hodges and one expected any day, Delta Faye Hodges; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Wilkerson at 12:00 noon, Friday, September 28, 2012, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Crocker with Bro. Jimmy Moore, Crocker, officiating. "When I Stop Crying", a recorded selection by her grandson-in-law, J.T. Hodges, and selections from her favorite artist, Alan Jackson, were played for the service.
Interment was in the Crocker Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Crocker. Pallbearers for Mrs. Wilkerson were Jimmy Mitchell, Gary Mitchell, Joey Bryan, Jim Parris, Chris Marquart and Kevin Koelling.
