Juanita Mae (Burgess) Crawford was born on October 10, 1916, in Stoutland, MO. A daughter of Jess T. Burgess and Nancy Jane (Wheeler) Burgess, she departed this life at 8:15 PM on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at the Life Care nursing home in Waynesville. Gran had been in failing health since she had a heart attack the day after Thanksgiving 2013. She had attained the age of 97 years, 11 months and 14 days.
She was married on December 1, 1934 to James Riley Crawford in Crocker. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim in 1979, her younger son Jack Dale in 2009 and one great grandson Jesse in 2008. Juanita had worked as a home maker and in addition to her two sons, assisted in raising many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Juanita was baptized at the Crocker Christian Church in 1934 and remained active in that church up until she became confined to the nursing home; during her service at the church she filled several capacities including Sunday School Teacher for the young girls class and Vacation Bible School Teacher.
Juanita is the middle child of nine siblings, she had four older brothers Norman 'Jock', Orla 'Rat', Aubrey 'Orb' and Lawrence 'Dude', she had four younger brothers Andrew 'Andy', twins Lilburn & Wilburn 'Lil & Wil' and the baby, Bill 'Willie', all of whom were previously deceased leaving Juanita as the last of her generation to pass. She lost her mom when she was just 14, leaving her to help her father care for her brothers until he passed when she was 16.
Those left to mourn the passing of Gran include her son, Gary & Sandy Crawford; seven grandsons, Joe and Liz Crawford, Ben and Ediane Crawford, Craig & Kathy Crawford, Rick & Karen Crawford, John David & Wanda Crawford, John Anthony & Yvonne Crawford, Billy Crawford and one granddaughter, Lisa (Crawford) Thomsen; seven great-grandsons, Jonathon, John Jr, Luke, Christopher, Michael, Bradley and Quinn; four great-granddaughters, Jean, Jessikah, Rebekha and Destany; two great-great-grandsons, Levi and Uriah and two great-great- granddaughters, Arielle and Sophia. Also Barbara (Burgess) Duncan and family and many-many of the Burgess nieces; nephews; cousins; and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., with the funeral service at 11 a.m., Monday, September 29, 2014, Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Crocker
