CSM (RET) KARL PETERSEN

Karl Hermann Petersen, age 82 of Hermann formerly of Dixon, was born on November 18, 1940, at Kiel, Germany, a son of Karl Wilhem and Margarethe (Voss) Petersen and departed this life at 10:44 a.m., Thursday, May 4, 2023 in the Hermann Stonebridge.

Mr. Petersen was united in marriage on January 23, 1961, at Elizabeth City, North Carolina to Miss Elizabeth Agnes Gerke. Elizabeth preceded her husband in death on March 12, 2018; in addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and his step-father, Marius Hansen.

Mr. Petersen was a retired United States Army veteran having served during the Vietnam War and being honorably discharged at the rank of Command Sergeant Major after 26 years of faithful service to his country. He was a member of the St. Theresa Catholic Church, Dixon and president of the St. Theresa Cemetery Association. Mr. Petersen took great pride in the upkeep of the cemetery.

Following his retirement from the United States Army, Mr. Petersen, or as some fondly recalled him as "Hermann" or "Pete", worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Missouri Correctional Facility in Jefferson City and had also dabbled in real estate.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Petersen include: his children, Suzanne Mueller of Germany; Rhonda Trout, Lebanon and Teressa Fowler, St. Robert; nine grandchildren, Christine, Christian, Andreas, Kimberly, Karen, Julieanne, Sarah, William and Thomas; five great-grandchildren, Eric, Emma, Ludwig, Josefa and Margo; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m., all on Friday, May 12, 2023 in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon with Father William Korte, St. Theresa Catholic Church officiating.

Interment with full military honors will be in the St. Theresa Catholic Cemetery near Dixon under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dixon.

Memorial contributions are suggested by the family to the St. Theresa Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the at the office of the funeral home.
