Leona Maxine Bittle, of Ivor, Virginia, formerly of Crocker, was born on March 22, 1928, at Quinter, Kansas, a daughter of Alfred and Ethyl (Thompson) McQueen and departed this life on Sunday, July 16, 2017, in South Hampton County, Virginia. Mrs. Bittle had attained the age of 89 years, 3 months, and 24 days.
Mrs. Bittle was united in marriage on March 23, 1962, at Waynesville to Wayne Bittle. She was preceded in death by her husband on November 24, 2016; her father, Alfred in 1992; her mother, Ethyl in 1994; two sons, Marvin Massingill in 1982 and Earl Bittle in 1964; one brother, Donald McQueen in 1992 and one sister, Lavern Alvin.
Mrs. Bittle was a member of the Crocker Christian Church. She had been owner and operator of Leona's Café and was also a cook for the Miller County Nursing Home as well as being a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Bittle include: three sons, Melvin Massingill, Ivor, Virginia; Guy Massingill, Seattle, Washington and Wayne Bittle, Springfield; one daughter; Karla Bittle, Jefferson City; one sister, Anna Lahman, Tampa, Florida; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Bittle at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 20, 2017, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Crocker, with Larry Richardson, Crocker Christian Church officiating.
Interment was in the Crocker Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Crocker. Pallbearers for Mrs. Bittle were Morris Roam, Eddie Bowling, Truman McAlpin, Don Slater, Chester Hagan and Cecil Penland.
