Leroy Ghumm, of Springfield, formerly of Crocker, was born on September 5, 1923, at Wakenie, Kansas, a son of Jesse and Rebecca (Schneider) Ghumm and departed this life at 10:10 A.M., Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at his residence in Springfield. Mr. Ghumm had attained the age of 89 years.
Mr. Ghumm was united in marriage on April 1, 1955 to Hildegard Cornrad, and to this union, 9 children were born. He was preceded in death by one son, Harold Ghumm; his parents; and one grandson, Jediah Ghumm.
Mr. Ghumm was a retired United States Army veteran and had worked in the PX at Fort Leonard Wood. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Crocker.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Ghumm include: his wife, Hildegard Ghumm, Springfield; five sons, Ernest Ghumm, state of Nevada; Jesse Ghumm and wife, Linda, state of Indiana; Eddy Ghumm and wife, Nicole, state of Iowa; Mike Ghumm, state of Michigan and Bill Ghumm and wife, Carrie, state of Tennessee; three daughters, Yolanda Williams and husband, Jim, state of Oklahoma; Rose Pincente and husband, Mike, state of Idaho and Rebecca Bowler and husband, Jerry, Springfield; fifteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Private funeral services were held for Mr. Ghumm at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, September 9, 2012, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Crocker with Chaplain Mike Herr officiating.
Interment with full military honors was in the Crocker Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Crocker.
