Mae Wyss, of Dixon, was born on May 14, 1925, at Rolling Springs, a daughter of Vasca and Phoebe Elizabeth (Rowden) Slone and departed this life at 5:10 p.m., Tuesday, January 23, 2018, in the Maries Manor, Vienna. Mae had attained the age of 92 years, 8 months and 9 days.
Mae was united in marriage on May 31, 1941, at Tuscumbia to Clifford Monroe Wyss and to this union, three children were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Chelsea Wyss; two brothers, Homer Sloan and Louis Slone and one sister, Roberta Shelton.
Mae had attended the Kenner Church for 35 years and later attended Santee Church and was a member of the Friendship Quilt Club, Hayden and the Dixon Saddle Club. She was an excellent gardener and cook and was known for her gooseberry pies. She and Clifford started a family tradition when they started making molasses in the old fashion way, including family, friends and neighbors and she would always prepare a big meal for everyone. Mae had worked for Brown Shoe Company retiring in 1990 after 29 years of service.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mae include: her husband of 76 years, Clifford Wyss, Dixon; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Gary Wyss and Marshall and Cindy Wyss, all of Dixon; one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Pat Dawson, Dixon; one sister, Mary Porter, Dixon; six grandchildren, Bryan Wyss, Andrea Bunda, Nichole Hughes, Lindsay Beers, Rick Dawson and Josh Dawson; one step-grandson, Jim Malone; seven great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held for Mae at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 26, 2018, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel with Pastor Helen Winters, Seaton Faith Fellowship Church, Dixon officiating.
Interment was in the West Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dixon. Pallbearers for Mae were Duayn Slone, Mike Slone, Dwight Slone, Troy Porter, Trent Porter and Steve Shelton. Honorary pallbearers were Justin Shelton, Jerry Shelton and Ronnie Sloan.
