Obituary

Max George Tassus of Crocker, was born on February 22, 1922, at Wannaggen, Lithuania, a son of George and Ilse, and departed this life at 10:32 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. He had attained the age of 95 years, 5 months, and 10 days.

Mr. Tassus was first united in marriage to Hilda Hirschman on November 11, 1951, she preceded him in death on September 18, 1965. He was later united in marriage on May 18, 1968, at Bel-Ridge to Vernetia Danneman. In addition to his first wife, Max was preceded in death by his son, Richard Tassus in May 1963 and his parents, George and Ilse.

Mr. Tassus was baptized in Lithuania on April 8, 1922 and at the time of his passing was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, St. Robert. He was a graduate of Por'Kuls High School. Mr. Tassus had worked as a welder for Hussman Refrigeration, St. Louis for over 32 years, retiring in 1984. He enjoyed his dog Muffie, his tractors, cows, his family and church family and enjoyed life to the fullest, always with a smile.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Tassus include: his loving and devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Vernetia Tassus, Crocker; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Robert Weinhold, Sycamore, Illinois and Becky and David Vogel, Imperial; five grandchildren, Joshua (Mallory) Weinhold, Rachel (Joshua) Phipps, Caleb Weinhold, Jessica Vogel and Jacob Vogel; two great-grandchildren, Bennett Weinhold and Jonathan Weinhold; two sisters-in-law, Irma Wagner and her daughter, Monika of Germany and Edna Lofting, Crocker; nieces, Edith Schiller and Irmgard Rieger, dear friend, Joe Deurmann; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held for Mr. Tassus at 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 4, 2017, in the Faith Lutheran Church, St. Robert with Pastor John Perling officiating.

Interment was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 5, 2017 in the Shepherd Hills Cemetery, Barnhart, Missouri with Pastor Robert Weinhold officiating, under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Crocker. Pallbearers for Mr. Tassus were Joshua Weinhold, Caleb Weinhold, Joshua Phipps, Jacob Vogel, Jessica Vogel and Joe Deurmann. Honorary pallbearers were Davey Matthews, Jr., Lee Evans, Pete Malley and Mike Hicks.

Memorials are suggested by the family to the Faith Lutheran Church of St. Robert for the Bell Tower or the charity of the donor's choice with envelopes available at the Church or the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Crocker.
