Today we look back and celebrate the life of Joseph Leroy (Mickey) Stennett, known by most as Mickey, he received this nickname from one of his many talents, baseball. Some said he played the game just as Mickey Mantle did and the name stuck with him throughout the years. Mickey also loved golf and fishing and participated in both nearly to the end. He was born January 31, 1929, the son of Joe and Alice Lillian (Resimius) Stennett and departed this life on Sunday, January 11, 2015. He had attained the age of 85 years, 11 months, and 11 days.
Mickey was united in marriage on January 2, 1953, at Swedeborg, to Pauline Ruth Yoakum, who preceded him in death on December 3, 2003. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
Mickey was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War and owner and operator of Stennett Body Shop, Dixon, for many years. He was a member of the Oak Hills Country Club, Dixon.
Those left to cherish the memories of Mickey include: two daughters and one son-in-law, Kay and Randall Withers and Fay Mayo, all of Dixon; two sisters, Josephine Ogle, Dixon and Kitty Crawford-Huff, Tulsa, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Toby Withers and his wife, Jennifer; Brandy Keeth and her husband, Steven and Jerica Holtsclaw and her husband, Brent, all of Dixon; five great-grandchildren, Lane, Lydia, Maci, Carson and Ty; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held for Mickey from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 13, 2015, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon. A private graveside service was held on Wednesday, in the Dixon Cemetery, under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Dixon.
