Robert Garland Smith, of Dixon, was born on July 4, 1930 in Richmond, Indiana a son of Gordon Smith and departed this life at 2:37 p.m., Saturday, September 1, 2018, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla. Mr. Smith had attained the age of 88 years, 1 month and 28 days.

Mr. Smith was united in marriage in 1960 at Fort Leonard Wood, to Miss Joyce Jean Jones and to this union, one son was born. He was preceded in death by his wife on December 10, 2017; his parents; an infant sibling; three brothers, Herb, Charlie and Al Smith and five sisters, Elizabeth, Beverly, Dot, Betty and Charlotte.

Mr. Smith was veteran of the United States Navy and Army. He served in the United States Navy from July 8, 1947 to December 8, 1948 and in the United States Army from May 20, 1954 to May 5, 1956 and from January 24, 1957 to September 30, 1973 during the Korean Conflict Era, Peacetime and the Vietnam Era, retiring at the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Mr. Smith also worked civil service at Fort Leonard Wood. He served as an Arson Investigator for Pulaski County and was a member of the Waynesville VFW.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Smith include: his son, Robert E. "Bobby" Smith, Dixon; two sisters, Maggie Smith and JoAnn Korman both of Richmond, Indiana; and many other relatives and friends.
