Robert John Schafer, of Dixon, was born on July 26, 1934, in Kelso, Missouri, a son of Erich and Rose E. (Machalke) Schafer, and departed this life at 9:30 a.m., Friday, July 1, 2016, in the Life Care Center, Waynesville. Mr. Schafer had attained the age of 82 years and 5 days.

Mr. Schafer was a member of the Catholic faith and had worked as a painter and carpenter. He enjoyed fishing and collecting things and sharing his treasures with his family.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Schafer include: one son and daughter-in-law, Robert L. and Elaine M. Schafer of Dixon; two grandchildren, Robert L. Schafer, II, Osage Beach and Brandy Schafer-Hudson and her husband, Ronnie, St. Robert; seven great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Schafer was preceded in death by his parents, Erich and Rose Schafer; one brother, Ed Schafer; and two sisters, Marie Stoffel and Dorthy Albright.

A visitation will be held for Mr. Schaefer from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 7, 2016 in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dixon. A Prayer service immediately followed the visitation at 7:00 p.m. led by the Rev. Joseph Hoi, St. Theresa Catholic Church, Dixon.
