Shirl Gene Strutton Cox, was born on January 6, 1959, at Kansas City, Missouri, daughter of Clell and Shirley (Waltman) Lawrence, and departed this life on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at her residence near Crocker. Shirl had attained the age of 54 years, 1 month and 21 days.

Shirl was united in marriage on September 11, 2004, at Piedmont, to Russell Cox. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Shelby Lawrence; one sister, Cledus Munden and one niece, BJ McCormick.

Shirl enjoyed talking to people, helping others, cleaning, cooking, going to auctions and watching television, especially Law & Order and CSI, she loved her dog Max and her cat Mittens. Shirl was a devoted housewife and homemaker, always diligent in providing for the needs of her family.

Those left to mourn the passing of Shirl include: her husband, Russell Cox, Crocker; one son and daughter-in-law, Johnny C. (JC) and Mandy Gormley, Lebanon; one stepson, Chris Cox and his wife, Carrie, Crocker; one brother, Richard Lawrence and companion, Monia, Marshfield; one sister, Stella Martin, Kansas City; two grandchildren, Austin Cox and Monica Cox; nephews; nieces; and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service was held for Shirl at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2013, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Crocker, with Bro. Lee A. Todd, Concord Christian Church, officiating.
