Obituary

Snowden E. "Fid" Wilkes, of Crocker, was born on July 7, 1939, at Crocker, a son of Dillard John and Lona Elsie (Burnett) Wilkes, and departed this life at 12:10 p.m., Friday, February 28, 2014, in the Life Care Center of Waynesville. Mr. Wilkes had attained the age of 74 years, 7 months and 21 days.

Mr. Wilkes was united in marriage on June 7, 1962, at Elliott, Iowa, to Cheryl Maureen Bruce. He was preceded in death by his father in 1965; his mother in 1973; one daughter, Sandra Jo Wilkes on March 2, 1966; one brother Wayne Wilkes and six sisters, Florene Routh, Sharon Kay Kloeppel, Evelyn Wilkes, Bonnie Wilkes, Stella Wilkes and Barbara Wilkes.

Mr. Wilkes was a member of the Hilltop Christian Union Church, Crocker and the Teamsters Union. He loved to sing, go horseback riding, cook and take his grandchildren for rides on the tractor. In 1948, Mr. Wilkes' third grade teacher made note on his report card that "Snowden is very mischievous". He was a great jokester, loved to aggravate and have fun. Mr. Wilkes had worked for Howard Gravel Plant as a crane operator and later as a sandblaster.

Those left to mourn the passing, but cherish the wonderful memories of Mr. Wilkes include: his wife, Cheryl Wilkes, Crocker; one son, Scott Wilkes, Crocker; two daughters, Holly Wilkes and Cindy Thomas, both of Odessa; two brothers, James Homer Wilkes and Gary Don Wilkes, both of Crocker; one sister, Betty Jo Street, Crocker; five grandchildren, Joseph, Jessica, Emily, Haley and Seth; three great-grandchildren, Hunter, Blake, Easton and a little girl expected soon; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Wilkes at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2014, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Crocker, with Bro. Bill Claiborn, Hilltop Christian Union Church, Crocker, officiating.

Interment was in the Crocker Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Crocker. Pallbearers for Mr. Wilkes were John Wayne Routh, Joe Don Wilkes, Steve Street, Jerry Kloeppel, Harold Smith and Dale Wayne Wilkes.
