Obituary

Thomas Harlan Ulmer departed this life Friday in the Richland Care Center.  He had been in declining health and was 89 years old.  He is survived by his son, Tim and daughter-in-law, Yan, in Atlanta; and his daughter, Amy Routh and son-in-law, Ron in Crocker, MO.  Also surviving are grandchildren Jonathan and Nathan Routh, and Alana Ulmer.  The family is joined in mourning by his dear companion, Charlotte Pemberton of Richland, MO and her family.  He was proceeded in death by his wife Rosemary Ellen Martin of Sullivan, IL to whom he was married on June 8, 1958, and passed away on Aug. 31, 2004, and brothers Marvin and Harrison.

He was known to residents of Crocker, MO after moving from Illinois in 2006.  He was an elder at Faith Lutheran Church of St. Robert, and a member American Legion Post No 195 of Crocker.   Known for being an avid St. Louis Cardinals' baseball fan and a historical reader, he also loved bird watching and model railroading.

Born to Emil Frederick and Lula Marie Ruwe Ulmer, he was born in Strasburg, IL, baptized in its St. Paul's Lutheran Church along with his brothers.  His career was in education, first as an elementary teacher, principal, and retiring as a superintendent.  Being a life-time Lutheran, he was an elder and congregational president in other communities.  A veteran of the US Navy from 1952-1956, he served in the Korean War, he was also a member and commander of the American Legion post in Murphysboro, IL.

Due to Covid-19 and keeping the well being of others in mind, no local visitations will be held for Mr. Ulmer.  A private graveside service for his family, with full military honors, was held for him in Sullivan on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021 under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Crocker.

The family asks that any memorial contributions be made to the Faith Lutheran Church of St. Robert, MO.
