Obituary

Thomas William "Tommy" Cross, age 76, of Dixon, was born November 4, 1947, at Hancock, the son of William Sherman and Ina Maxine (Goodman) Cross, and passed from this life on Monday, August 12, 2024, at his residence in Dixon.

He was married April 2, 1994, in Hancock Christian Church, to Glenda McGriff.

Tommy was a member of the Hancock Christian Church and was baptized in 1994. He was a 1965 graduate of Dixon High School and a Past Master of the Arlington Lodge #346 AF & AM recently earning his 50-year pin.

He started his working career with their family-owned businesses Cross Oil Company and TraveLiner Travel Trailers, as a driver, mechanic, and designer. Tommy was one of the founding members of the Dixon Rural Fire Department, serving as Fire Chief for several years, he also worked for the Dixon Police Department. Tommy then went on to start his career with the Missouri State Highway Patrol where he held many titles, and in 1996 graduated from Commercial Vehicle Enforcement continuing his career with the Missouri State Highway Patrol as a Commercial Vehicle Supervisor until retiring in 2012.

Tommy was a jack of all trades who enjoyed fishing, tinkering on cars, and spending time with his family.

Those left to mourn his passing include: his wife: Glenda of Rolla; his daughter, Tracey Bechtel and her significant other Chuck Daugherty, of Jefferson City; his son, Timothy Cross and wife Sandra, of Dixon; five grandchildren, Brianne Bechtel, Brendan Bechtel, Jacob Cross, Mackenzie Cross, and Zayn Cross; his step children, Kristina Mitchell and husband, Tommy of Columbia,  Matthew Eskridge and wife, Shana of Fulton, and Jason Eskridge and wife, Rebekah of Evansville, Indiana; step grandchildren, Ashlee, Kaitlynn, Rhiannon, Ethan, Grace, Olivia, Madalyn, Preston, Kaleb, Kaden, Konner, and Kollin; six step great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Bill on November 12, 2012; and his mother, Maxine on September 25, 2018.

Visitation for Tommy will be from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., Friday, August 16, 2024, with his Masonic Service at 12:30 p.m., all in the Martin-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, 205 W Third Street, Dixon MO 65459, followed by his memorial service at 1:00 p.m., with Bro. Gary Day officiating.

Inurnment for Tommy will be in the Seaton Cemetery under the direction of Martin-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dixon. Honorary pallbearers for Tommy will be Donnie Wayne Alexander, Jeff Leathers, Kevin Malone, C.J. Massey, Ralicia Tyler and Paul Robinson.
