Velma Irene Hamilton, of Dixon, was born on June 11, 1923, at Dixon, a daughter of Clergy Lafayette and Daisy Dean (Wilson) Crismon, and departed this life at 1:05 p.m., Friday, July 11, 2014, in the St. Clare Health Center, Fenton. Mrs. Hamilton had attained the age of 91 years and one month.
Mrs. Hamilton was united in marriage on February 13, 1942, at Rolla, to Chester Carl Hamilton and to this union one son was born. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 9, 2006; her son, Carl Lee Hamilton, on December 3, 2013; her parents and one grandson, Zachary Shelton.
Mrs. Hamilton was baptized early in life and was a member of the Church of God, Dixon. She graduated from cosmetology school at the age of 19 years and was owner and operator of Velma's Beauty Shop in Dixon for over 50 years. In her spare time, she loved playing the piano and organ.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Hamilton include: two granddaughters, Karla Hamilton, Crocker and Rhonda Hamilton, Dixon; nine great-grandchildren, Dale, Mary, Rickie, Hayden, Mason, Kylie, Hayden C., Chance, and Sammy; and many other relatives and friends.
Graveside funeral services were held for Mrs. Hamilton at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 15, 2014, in the Dixon Cemetery, with Bro. Billy Claiborn, Hilltop Christian Union Church, Crocker, officiating.
