Velva Lucille Jones, age 97, of Dixon, was born in Helm, Missouri on April 6, 1926 a daughter of Charles Issac and Nellie Mae (Alexander) Rigsby and departed this life on Wednesday afternoon, January 17, 2024 in the Phelps Health, Rolla.

Velva was baptized early in life. She had worked as a waitress, helped her husband on their farm as well as being a loving and devoted housewife and homemaker. She loved playing Bingo, cards and baking.

Those left to cherish the memories of Velva include: her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Doug Hughes of Dixon; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Jane Rigsby of Springfield and Jack and Paula Rigsby of the state of Alabama; nine grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces and many other relatives and friends.

Velva was preceded in death by two sons, Jim Barnhart on November 15, 1968 and Larry Barnhart on November 15, 2011; one grandson, Nicholas Howe on September 23, 2017; two brothers, Ernie Rigsby and Paul Rigsby and one sister, Patsy Fenton.

In following Velva's wishes, the family elected cremation under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dixon.
