Vernon Long, of Dixon, was born on September 26, 1933, at Waynesville, a son of Lloyd L. and Dorothy (Simpson) Long and departed this life on Thursday, December 3, 2020 in the Phelps Health, Rolla. Mr. Long had been in failing health and had attained the age of 87 years, 2 months and 7 days.

Mr. Long was united in marriage on December 25, 1953, at Dixon to Peggy J. Giesler and to this union, three children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife on June 22, 2013; his father, Lloyd on June 23, 1985 and his mother, Dorothy on July 23, 2012.

Mr. Long was baptized early in life and was a faithful member of the Sheppard Baptist Church near Dixon where he had served as a Deacon for over 40 years. Mr. Long was a cattleman farmer as well as being owner and operator of Vernon's Carpet Center in Rolla since 1969 and retired in 1997. He was a board member of Oak Hills Country Club, Dixon and the Dixon R1 Schools. Mr. Long was an avid golfer, St. Louis Cardinal and Mizzou fan, but getting to go to and watch his children and grandchildren's sports gave him his most joy.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Long include: his children and their spouses, Randy and Teresa Long, Dixon; Mike and Anthanett Long, Springfield and Diane and David Easterling, Camdenton; nine grandchildren, Gary (Maria), Josh, Jenna (Derek), Jace (Mikala), Brock (Ashley), Rocco (Angela, Rody (Nick), Jeramie (Shannon) and Judd; eleven great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will held for Mr. Long at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 7, 2020 in the Dixon Cemetery with Rev. Tom Maples, Crossway Baptist Church, Springfield officiating.

Honorary pallbearers for Mr. Long are his grandchildren, Gary Long, Josh Long, Jeramie Easterling, Judd Easterling, Jenna Doolittle, Jace Long, Brock Long, Rocco Long and Rody Clark.

Memorial contributions are suggested by the family to the Sheppard Baptist Church, Dixon in memory of Mr. Vernon L. Long.
