Obituary

Vernon Henry Smith, of Dixon, was born on October 21, 1929, at Crocker a son of Peter Henry and Edna Bell (Singleton) Smith and departed this life at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2021 in the Dixon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dixon. Mr. Smith had attained the age of 91 years, 5 months and 3 days.

Mr. Smith was united in marriage on October 25, 1951, at Crocker, to Bonnie Fey Evans and to this union, two sons were born. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Edna; one brother, Roland Smith and one sister, Dorothy Bahr.

Mr. Smith was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean War. He had worked as a mechanic for Ford in the St. Robert/Waynesville and Dixon area for over 35 years retiring on October 31, 1991.

Mr. Smith was baptized while attending the Santee church near Dixon. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, food and being with his family.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Smith include: his wife of over 69 years, Bonnie Smith of Dixon; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Sharon Smith, Dixon and Dwight and Denice Smith, Edwards; four grandchildren, Brian (Renae), Robert (Heather), Julie (Shawn) and David (Nicole); five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jacob, Stormy, Troy and Leland; nephews; nieces and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation from 12 to 1:00 p.m., service at 1 p.m. all on Monday, March 29, 2021 in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon with Rev. Bruce Doublin, Sunny View Free Will Baptist Church, Lebanon officiating.

Interment with full military honors in the West Fairview Cemetery near Dixon under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dixon. Pallbearers for Mr. Smith are Brian Smith, Robert Smith, Tyler Smith, Jacob Smith, David Aldurien, Leland Alexander and Troy Hopus. Honorary pallbearers are Julie Alexander and Stormy Smith.

Memorial contributions are suggested by the family to the West Fairview Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dixon.
