Obituary

Violet Ora Cowan, of Crocker, was born on January 16, 1923, at Plato, a daughter of Jasper and Etta Mae (Lee) Mace and departed this life at 4:30 a.m., Monday, August 14, 2017, in the Life Care Center of Waynesville. Mrs. Cowan had attained the age of 94 years, 6 months, and 29 days.

Mrs. Cowan was united in marriage on October 14, 1939 in Texas County to Albert Dean Cowan and to this union, three children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 14, 1981; three daughters, infant Verna Cowan; Etta Marlene Zeigenbein on September 6, 2014; Virginia Medlen on March 28, 1988; her parents; and one granddaughter, Trina Witt on August 4, 2007; and two great-great-grandchildren, Joseph Neighbors, Jr on August 16, 2014 and Lilly Grace Medlen on November 5, 2015.

Mrs. Cowan was baptized at a young age and was a member of the Sweet Home Christian Union Church in Crocker. She had worked as a nurse at the Waynesville Hospital as well as being a loving and devoted housewife and homemaker. Mrs. Cowan enjoyed quilting, fishing, gardening and tending to her flowers.


Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Cowan include: seven grandchildren, J.D. Zeigenbein, Odessa, Texas, Darrell Zeigenbein, Campbellsburg, Indiana, Charley Zeigenbein, Milton, Florida, Timmy Zeigenbein, Erie, Kansas, Billy Medlen, Crocker, Lori Barker, Lebanon and Whitney Medlen, Crocker; seventeen great-grandchildren; thirty-six great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m until service time at 11 a.m., Friday, August 18, 2017 in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Crocker with Bro. Billy Claiborn, Hilltop Christian Union Church, Crocker officiating.

Interment will be in the Crocker Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Crocker. Pallbearers for Mrs. Cowan were Billy Medlen, J.D. Zeigenbein, Darrell Zeigenbein, Charley Zeigenbein, Timmy Zeigenbein and Jim Zeigenbein.

Memorial contributions are suggested by the family to the Crocker Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Crocker.
