Obituary

Wayne Bittle, of Jefferson City, formerly of Crocker, was born on August 6, 1930, at Eugene, a son of Archie and Mildred (Bond) Bittle, and departed this life at 2:20 a.m., Thursday, November 24, 2016, in the Villa Marie Nursing Home, Jefferson City. Mr. Bittle had attained the age of 86 years, 3 months, and 18 days.

Mr. Bittle was united in marriage on March 23, 1962, at Waynesville, to Leona Maxine McQueen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Mildred Bittle; two sons, Marvin Lee Massingill and Alfred Earl Bittle; two brothers, Kenneth Bittle and Wendall Bittle; and one sister, Pauline Jenkins.

Mr. Bittle was a member of the Crocker Christian Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4956, Crocker. Mr. Bittle entered into the United States Army at Jefferson City, Missouri on September 18, 1948 and proudly served his country until September 30, 1969, when he was honorably discharged at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri on September 30, 1969. He had attained the rank of 1SGT. Mr. Bittle then went to work for the Missouri Department of Corrections retiring in 1989.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Bittle include: his wife of over 54 years, Leona Bittle, Jefferson City; three sons, Melvin Massingill, state of Virginia; Guy Massingill, state of Washington and Wayne Eugene Bittle, Springfield; one daughter, Karla Bittle, Jefferson City; one brother, Sammy Bittle, Eldon; one sister, Ruby Jeffries, Eldon; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Bittle at 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Crocker with 1LT Courtney Merchant, United States Army Chaplain, officiating.

Interment with full military honors was in the Crocker Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Crocker. Members of the United States Army served as pallbearers for Mr. Bittle.
