William Edward Manes, of Crocker, Missouri, was born on June 9, 1931, at Swedeborg, Missouri a son of William Clair and Anna Mae (Peterson) Manes, and departed this life at 1:43 p.m., Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Mr. Manes had attained the age of 83 years, 3 months, and 21 days.
Mr. Manes was united in marriage on January 18, 1956 in Mackinaw, Illinois, to Marjory Ann DePoister, and to this union, five children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife on September 9, 2014; his parents and one brother, Robert Manes.
Mr. Manes was a faithful member of the Eureka Baptist Church in Richland, Missouri and was a United States Navy veteran. He retired from General Electric as a purchasing agent for the company. Mr. Manes enjoyed woodworking and was always willing to help others. He attended several mission projects helping with construction. He was also an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. After moving to Crocker in 2001, he became active in helping at the Senior Center in Crocker.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Manes include: four sons and three daughters-in-law, Mike and Linda Manes, Dallas, Georgia; Tim and Beth Manes, Greer, South Carolina; Ron Manes, Omaha, Nebraska and Tom and Leatha Manes, Bloomington, Illinois; one daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and John Allen, Littleton, Colorado; three sisters, Laverne Carroll and Pat Wilkes, both of Crocker and Mary Ann Jacobson, Swedeborg; eight grandchildren, Julie, Lindsey, Jonathan, Jeremy, Justin, Kathryn, Evan and Amber; five great-grandchildren, Andrew, Maggie, Annabelle, Carter and Shane; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Manes at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 4, 2014, at the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Crocker, Missouri, with Pastor Doug Jacobson, Eureka Baptist Church, Richland, officiating.
Interment with full military honors was in the Crocker Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Crocker. Pallbearers for Mr. Manes were Kirby Wilkes, Dan Wilkes, Jonathan Allen, Jeremy Allen, Justin Allen, Evan Manes, Randy Carroll and Randy Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers were Scott Jacobson, Jake Starnes and Jerry Thornsberry.
