William Carl Shepherd, of Dixon, was born on February 9, 1929, at Iberia, a son of William Arthur and Marsha Mae (Denton) Shepherd, and departed this life at 9:22 p.m., Sunday, November 2, 2014, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla. Carl had been in failing health and had attained the age of 85 years, 8 months, and 23 days.
Carl was united in marriage at the Christian Church in Dixon, on June 12, 1948, to Audrey Ellen Slone and to this union, four children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Josh Shepherd; one great-granddaughter, Baby Doyle; one brother, Leman Shepherd; one sister just six hours prior to his passing, Catherine Humphrey; sister-in-law, Pansey Shepherd; and brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Dorothy George.
Carl was a member of the First Baptist Church, Dixon. He loved his Sunday School Class and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Carl went to work early in life for Johansen Brothers Shoe Factory, St. Louis, in his spare time, you could find him driving a taxi cab, carrying out groceries or delivering mail during the Christmas season to make extra money. He later went to work for Couple's Window Products for a short period of time and then for Missouri Pacific Railroad and worked there for over 38 years, retiring in 1989, during this time he also started a storm window business for many years. In 1964, Carl opened and operated Shepherd's Garage, Dixon, and was a mechanic there until he retired in 2002. Truly a dedicated man, Carl loved his work and family.
Those left to mourn the passing of Carl include: his wife, Audrey Shepherd of the home in Dixon; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Arthur and Jeannie Shepherd, Dixon; Lewis Shepherd, Rolla and Kevin and Joyce Shepherd, Dixon; one daughter and son-in-law, Carlene and Elroy McMillian, Dixon; one brother, Lemoin Shepherd, Wentzville; nine grandchildren, Kim, Jeff, Kristy, Bailey, Zachary, Gina, Tyler, Lindsay and Jason; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted for Carl at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 5, 2014, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon, with Pastor Robert E. Williford, First Baptist Church, Dixon and Pastor Beverly Sharp, Kenner Church of God, Dixon, officiating. Pam George sang "Sheltered In The Arms of God" and "How Great Thou Art" for the service.
Interment was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Dixon. Pallbearers for Carl were Russell George, Greg George, Jeff McMillian, Jason Shepherd, Tyler Shepherd and Zachary Shepherd.
